Academic Standing

Academic Standing
Good Standing - A student will be considered to be in good academic standing when a student earns both a semester and a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.0.

Academic Progress - A student will be considered to be making academic progress when a student earns a semester GPA of at least a 2.0 but has a cumulative GPA less than 2.0.

Academic Warning - A student will be considered to be on academic warning the first time his semester GPA falls below a 2.0. A student on academic warning is expected to take advantage of the many college resources and is encouraged to establish contact with the college counseling center for additional support and assistance.

Academic Probation - A student will be considered to be on academic probation the second time he earns a semester GPA of less than a 2.0. A student on academic probation may be required to register for a reduced course load; register for specific courses or to participate in specially designed programs designated by the college. Contact the college counseling center to initiate the registration process.

Academic Suspension - A student with a continuing history of low academic performance is placed on academic suspension when both the semester GPA and cumulative GPA are below a 2.0. An academic suspension will result in a student being denied enrollment for a minimum of one long semester. A student desiring to appeal a suspension must follow the guidelines stipulated by the individual college at which the majority of his courses have been completed.

For more information on appealing a suspension, a student may contact the college counseling center.

Students who do not maintain minimum GPA standards will be placed on academic warning, academic probation or academic suspension.

The level of academic status depends on the previous record of the student and current performance.

The three levels of academic status allow for college faculty and staff to intervene and assist students in overcoming difficulties or deficiencies which may hinder their progress toward academic success.

Strategies to assist students may include individual or group tutoring, enrollment in developmental or special help courses, or referrals for special testing and/or diagnostics

If you were on probation or suspension this semester and your OVERALL GPA is above 2.0, you will be able to register to attend a PASS through the Lone Star College–Tomball or Willow Chase advisors at any time.

You can check your cumulative GPA by using STARGAZER or by requesting a copy of your transcript from the Records and Registration Office at TC or WC.

If you are on probation or suspension this semester and you did not complete your PASS requirements and your overall GPA is below 2.0, you will not be allowed to register. You will have an enforced suspension for 1 regular academic semester.
