Admission Requirements

Admission Criteria - Basic Track

In addition to the admission requirments of the system, the following are requirements for admission into the Associated Degree Nursing program. The applicant must:

1. Complete all admission requirements to be a student at Lone Star College System; submit official transcripts from all non-Lone Star College System colleges and universities attended; declare Nursing as a major

2. Attend an Information Session (not required but STRONGLY encouraged).

 

3. Pass TASP/THEA or complete the Student Success Initiative (see advisor or counselor for your status)

4. Complete the following courses with a minimum grade point average of 2.5:

  • BIOL 2401 (Human Anatomy and Physiology I)
  • ENGL 1301 (General Psychology)
  • PSYC 2301 (Composition and Rhetoric I)

(BIOL 2401 is required to meet the admission criteria, however, the highest grade in BIOL 2401 or 2402 will be used for calculation of GPA.)
NOTE: Biology courses submitted for program credit must be completed no more than five (5) years prior to application of the nursing program. Each biology course many be repeated for a grade change (including a "W" or "I") only one (1) time during the same five (5) year period.

5. Complete the standardized Nursing pre-entrance exam in reading, grammar and mathematics. The exam is only available during the application period (January-February). The cost of the test is $25.00 and is the responsibility of the applicant. All Nursing applicants must take the pre-entrance exam. There are NO EXCEPTIONS! 6. Submit a complete application packet, found on-line, to the Nursing Department in S-257 by March 2, 2009, 4:00pm. Applications will be available on the Nursing website January 14.

7. All Biology courses accepted into the Nursing program must be completed no more than 5 years prior to the date of application (for 2009 applicants, courses must have been completed no earlier than 2004).  Those with outdated Biology courses can retake the course or complete an online Biology review course thru the NHC Continuing Education Department (281-618-5657).  Lone Star College-Tomball does not offer this course.

8. All students are required to have a satisfactory criminal background check prior to acceptance in the Nursing Program. Any student who has a felony or misdemeanor conviction must have approval through he Board of Nursing's Declaratory Order process. To begin the process, to www.bon.state.tx.us. Click on Forms, then Declaratory Order.

9. All students must have completed the Hepatitis B immunization series before beginning their clinical classes.

10. All students are required to have a satisfactory criminal back ground check prior to acceptance in the Nursing Program. This is a 6-month process, so start early!
