Library Instruction and Tours
Lone Star College–Tomball Library offers a wide variety of library related instruction. The library’s program of instruction has a high priority among the library’s public service programs. Library instruction aims to improve the quality of students’ course work and increase their independence in learning.
- Class Tours and Orientations
- Several levels of library instruction are available, from basic library orientations to subject or assignment concentrated sessions. At the request of a faculty member, a librarian will plan and conduct a classroom session based on a course assignment, often preparing customized handouts for each class. Demonstrations of both print and electronic information sources can be arranged. Orientations are conducted in the Library computer classroom, Room L-207. The classroom is equipped with a projector for computer screen, video or DVD display on a big screen. There are 30 computer workstations available where students have the opportunity to get hands-on experience with library research.
- To maximize the effectiveness of the orientation, we ask you to:
- schedule instruction at least a week in advance
- provide us with a copy of the class assignment.
- How to Request Library Orientations
- Please try to make your request for a class library instruction session at least 1-2 weeks in advance. We receive a great number of requests for orientations and time is needed to prepare for these classes. Each request for a library instruction session will be honored on a first-come, first-serve basis.

- New Faculty Orientations
- New faculty members may request tours of the library at any time. If you would like a personalized introduction to the library, to the resources available in the library, or just a brush-up on library databases, call for an orientation at any time. A librarian will meet with you and point out any library services and information sources (print, electronic or media) that might be useful in your discipline. Librarians are also available to help you develop class assignments that utilize the resources of the library.
