Alternative Teaching Certificate

Lone Star College–Tomball is approved by the Texas Education Association/State Board for Educator Certification to offer preparation classes for alternative teacher certification. For individuals holding a bachelor's degree or higher, the Alternative Teacher Certification Program is an intensive 18 - 24 month program that includes:

  • 108 hours of instruction in teaching methods and professional responsibilities
  • 20-30 hours of classroom observation at a local school
  • 1 year internship teaching in a local school with an experienced mentor teacher to act as a resource
  • Preparation to take the state teacher certification exam (TExES)
This program is approved by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC).

All classes are held at LSC-Tomball
