CONSTITUTION FOR THE FACULTY SENATE OF Lone Star College–Tomball-Lone Star College System

REVISED AUGUST 18, 1993

PREAMBLE

The Faculty of Lone Star College–Tomball, in order to promote education, to promote communication and understanding among Faculty, the Administration, and the Board of Trustees, to achieve the highest possible degree of professional relations, and to assure standardized means whereby those affected by major policies or program may have a voice in the development or modification of policy, hereby establishes the Faculty Senate of Lone Star College–Tomball, the procedures of which shall be consistent with, and governed by, all of the provisions of Texas Law applicable to Community/Junior Colleges.

ARTICLE I NAME AND PURPOSE

SECTION 1:
The name of this organization shall be the Lone Star College–Tomball Faculty Senate and shall be designated as The Faculty Senate.

SECTION 2:
The purpose of the Faculty Senate shall be to present the views and recommendations of the Faculty to the Administration and to the Board of Trustees of the Lone Star College System as those views relate to policies on academic and professional matters.

SECTION 3:
The Faculty Senate shall act as a committee with regard to various committees; establishing, setting the areas of jurisdiction and approving the selection of the members of the committees of the Faculty Senate.

SECTION 4:
The agenda of the Faculty Senate shall be established by its President, with input solicited from each member.

SECTION 5:
The Faculty Senate shall have the power to adopt, and shall operate under, by-laws and rules of procedure consistent with this Constitution.

SECTION 6:
The membership of the Faculty Senate shall be composed of all full-time Lone Star College–Tomball staff that are either: faculty members; Counselors; or Learning Resource professionals.

ARTICLE I

COMMITTEES

SECTION 1: Committees in general:

a. Standing committees; the four (4) standing committees shall be: Rights and Responsibilities; Benefits; Professional Development; and Social. Each Division at Lone Star College–Tomball shall be represented on each standing committee. Each committee shall elect a chairperson.

b. Ad Hoc committees: representatives to serve on
ad hoc committees will be selected by the President of the Faculty Senate. These committees will be formed as needed to deal with specific matters.

SECTION 2: Committee membership may overlap

SECTION 3: Jurisdiction of committees: Each committee shall study issues and report its recommendations to the Faculty Senate. The President of the Faculty Senate shall present the recommendations to the Administration.

ARTICLE II

COMMUNICATION WITH RELATED GROUPS

SECTION 1: The Faculty Senate shall maintain open communication with the Faculty Senates of all Colleges of the Lone Star College System.

SECTION 2: The Faculty Senate shall maintain close communication with the Support Staff organization on the Lone Star College–Tomball Campus. The two organizations may work jointly on projects affecting faculty and support staff at Lone Star College–Tomball
