Developmental English

The department provides exemplary instruction to those who need improvement in the areas of reading and writing with the intention that students will develop the skills necessary to function efficiently in an academic environment and in personal endeavors. The members of the DS faculty are dedicated to the success of each student; furthermore, by focusing on course learning objectives and utilizing various instructional methods, the faculty ensures that each student has a well-rounded, structured learning experience.
The function of the developmental program is to involve students in building relevant skills necessary for success in college-level courses and programs. The program includes:

- tutorials
- seminarslearning activities
- a referral system
Developmental course numbers begin with a zero; the Course Description section of the catalog provides specific information about these courses.
Developmental courses appear on transcripts from Lone Star College System but do not transfer to four-year institutions, nor do they apply to Lone Star College System degrees or certificates.
