The joy of new beginnings and fresh commitment surrounds us as our students enter our classrooms and sit bright-eyed with potential….and then it ends. The students who appeared so eager and so committed slowly begin to disappear.
Lone Star College–Tomball is making an effort to change this pattern by providing a program of “drop intervention” which focuses on training faculty, staff and administrators in recognizing and successfully intervening with students at-risk of dropping a course. This drop intervention program includes a training session to prepare people to become STUDENT ADVOCATES.
Once trained in drop intervention, these Advocates will assist in retaining students by recognizing the signs of an at-risk student, initiating contact with the student and then making appropriate and timely referrals to available resources.
